ABOUT US

Redefining what it means to be Black.

WHO WE ARE

We raise young Africans who embrace their melanin — and who are empowered, educated and self-aware enough to pass that pride on.

Dr Anita Benson grew up as the darkest child in her school and neighbourhood, offered lightening products from an early age. As a consultant dermatologist she later met patients, and lost one, to the damage those products cause. Colorism had a name, and she decided not to rest until it was laid to rest.

Embrace Melanin began in 2018 as a Nigerian movement. Today the audience is international: darker-skinned people are discriminated against on every continent.

OUR MISSION

Educate. Empower. Change.

To raise awareness and develop programmes to reduce colorism and skin lightening practices, and empower young African men and women.

OUR VISION

Redefine what it means to be Black.

A continent and a diaspora where no one is taught to lighten themselves in order to belong.

OUR PROMISE

Skin health, skin pride.

Glowing, healthy skin — without altering the skin tone.

The people behind the movement.
